Tough Love

There is an intersection on the east side of San Antonio Corliss St and Bellinger St. Corliss St dead ends at IH 10, a block away. The intersection has the reputation of being the ground zero for the “East Terrace Gangsters”, “ETG”.

East Terrace was a housing development that was torn down over ten years ago.  It a block away from “Skinny’s Place and two blocks from Sonny Mitchell Village.

In the late 80’s early 90’s it wasn’t unusual to find 30 to 40 crack cocaine dealers hanging out at Sonny Mitchell Village. SAPD made a case on Sonny and the Feds seized the property, turned it into a youth center.

Much of the action moved to Skinny’s and the vacant lots around Skinny’s.  The next intersection Corliss and Bellinger held the matriarchal home of the head of the ETG’s. That made it a convenient stash house and refuge for the sons, nephews, cousins and grandsons engaged in the crack cocaine trade.

In 2001, it was my turn to make a run at the crack dealers in and around Corliss and Bellinger.  In an undercover operation we made five purchases out of Skinny’s and another five purchases from dealers in the surrounding vacant lot.  We doubled up and made some additional purchases.  When it was over we had ten defendants all related by blood or marriage or association that went back to grade school. These ten defendants, all black, ranging in age from 19 to 48 had over fifty felony convictions and had racked up 100 years of prison time.  All entered guilty pleas in Federal Court.

Since the New Year there have been a half dozen shootings at Corliss and Bellinger, three of them in 72 hours.  No body saw anything and no body knows anything.

The family names are familiar, but from the ages stated, I know the current lot would have been 9 or 10, when I was out there. I don’t hear any calls for the denizens of Corliss and Bellinger to reform. No outcry about indiscriminate drive-by shootings.  Not a peep about black lives matter.

Instead we have the crooks and criminals and their supporters demanding a say in how they should be investigated and arrested.  They don’t even pay lip service to the fact that their illegal activities are what causes the confrontations in the first place. It’s like a bad Godfather movie. Criminals demanding respect because of their criminality.  The very people who exhibit no respect for their community, police, other institutions or each other.  I don’t blame the crooks, why not give it a shot?

Hey black community want to trust the police? Stop being crooks. Stop giving refuge to the gangbangers and crooks among you. Tell the baby daddies to get off their ass and get a job, any job.  You’ll be too busy working during the day to get arrested and too tired at the end of the day to bother fighting. Homegirl just because a man looks at you twice, doesn’t mean you gotta fuck him.  If you get that fat ass off the couch and get a job, you might just lose 1/2 a ton and find a good man rather that the turds you been doing.

I blame the white liberals who are so bigoted that they go along with the program because they secretly believe blacks can’t do any better.  Pimp, dope dealer, thief and whore represent the epitome of black achievement. Chief McManus is no friend of the black community or any community.  Chief McManus is his own best friend.

And I mean this in a good way.
