The news is dominated by Donald Trump as he whines and cries about false allegations against him. Meanwhile, a Texas-sized tragedy is being played out in the local pages of the San Antonio, press. State Senator Carlos Uresti is facing a 13 count Federal indictment for merely being a Democrat. The-meteoric-rise-and-fall-of-indicted-Texas-State Senator Carlos Uresti.
Federal prosecutors are closing in around him. Three former associates at FourWinds Logistics, a now-defunct oil services company at the center of one of the indictments, have each pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges and are cooperating with the Department of Justice’s investigation. Former Reeves County Judge Jimmy Galindo agreed to plead guilty Thursday to taking $850,000 in bribes he allegedly split with Uresti, who’s brought on high-powered San Antonio attorney Mikal Watts to defend him.
There is an old saying that goes; When a dog pisses on a fire hydrant he is not committing an act of criminal mischief, he’s just a dog. The same holds true with Democrats; when a state senator is accused of stealing anything that isn’t nailed down, he is not a thief, he’s just a good Democrat.
According to the Feds for ten years, Uresti and the former County Judge of Reeves County were engaged in a bribery scheme. The former Judge, Jimmy Galindo has already pleaded guilty and admitted he split $850,000 with Uresti. Good government is expensive.
Carlos Uresti represented Four Winds Logistics a defunct oil field services company. In fact, he had an ownership interest and was performing legal work for the company. Most of the principals in the firm are currently assisting the Federal Government in fulfillment of their plea agreements. It really sucks to be the last man standing in a Federal conspiracy case. Everybody else is willing to testify against Uresti, and there is nobody left for him to snitch off.
It appears that the fraud charge involves Carlos Uresti represented a woman named Cantu in a wrongful death lawsuit. She lost two children and as a result obtained a sizable judgment. Stories indicate that Uresti was not content to bed Ms. Cantu. Uresti convinced her to invest $900,000 in Four Winds Logistics. He neglected to mention that he had an ownership interest in the company and stood to make a sizable commission on her investment. She lost it all and Uresti scored a rare legal triple play, literally and figuratively screwing a client while stealing what he couldn’t get by fraud.
Carlos Uresti is largely blameless in this whole affair. Here is a man brought up as a Democratic politician, led to believe from an early age that ALL money belonged to him. Other people might possess the funds, but that was only until he had a need. He was brought up to believe that when people offered him money to take it; It would be rude to do otherwise. Like Hillary, Uresti is unable to form the requisite intent to commit theft or fraud since he was only dealing with money that he thought was rightfully his. If Uresti is to be condemned, it is for owning a portion of an oil field business and contributing to the rape of the earth.
