Sorry, Wrong Number

A hiker in Colorado was reported lost. Rescuers tried calling him on his cell phone. He didn’t answer because he didn’t recognize the number.

“One notable take-away is that the subject ignored repeated phone calls from us because they didn’t recognize the number,” the officials said. “If you’re overdue according to your itinerary, and you start getting repeated calls from an unknown number, please answer the phone; it may be a SAR team trying to confirm you’re safe!”

Search and Rescue spokes person

I don’t blame the guy. He didn’t need rescuing. The call might be the search and rescue team. More likely it is some asshole trying to sell an extended car warranty, health insurance or air duct cleaning.

Hey SAR guy why didn’t you have dispatch make the call from a phone that identified the agency?
