Bias VS Critical Thinking

Volokh Conspiracy, which I have been unable to link to has an interesting article,”Alan Steinweiss Bad History.” Steinweiss wrote an Op-Ed by in the New York Times, Ben Carson is Wrong.  Professor Steinweiss takes exception to candidate Ben Carson’s remarks regarding the importance of the 2nd Amendment. Professor Steinweiss, who holds himself out as an authority on the Holocaust, Steinweiss states that the disarmament under the Weimar Republic and Nazi regime had no effect on the ability of the Jews to wage an effective resistance.

The Volokh response effectively counters his assertions.  I would point out that Washington lost many battles before he won the war. The Dieppe Raid was a disaster but the lessons learned led to D-Day.  Small unit actions by the resistance may not of won the war but they diverted  resources that  might otherwise been employed elsewhere.

I can’t help thinking that Professor Steinweiss with all his knowledge will be unable to put it into a usable context.  So that when he is ordered to the train station because the boxcars have started running again, he will be first in line, to get a good seat.
