War Games

Somebody sent me this in the belief that the technology existed. It may, but only in the minds of a certain type of people. Those folks haven’t learned the lesson that General Sherman spoke of over one hundred forty years ago.

Killing without risk!

Liberals seem to be horrified to put boots on the ground. The risk of confrontation between nation states is unacceptable. Listen to the cheers and applause as the speaker unveils a killer drone, no risk, no defense, just killing. These are the folks that would wear a tee shirt celebrating Mao or Che, that’s just fashion.

Contrast that attitude with the feelings of one who knew war. General William Tecumseth Sherman brought total war to the south.

It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, more vengeance, more desolation. War is hell.”

“You might as well appeal against a thunderstorm as against these terrible hardships of war. War is cruelty, there is no use trying to reform it; the crueler it is, the sooner it will be over.”

“You cannot qualify war in harsher terms than I will. War is cruelty, and you cannot refine it; and those who brought war into our country deserve all the curses and maledictions a people can pour out. I know I had no hand in making this war, and I know I will make more sacrifices to-day than any of you to secure peace.”

The concept behind a killer drone is not new. It has been tried before, with varying degrees of success. For a dictator, what is not to like? Kill those who don’t fit a preconceived notion without fear of opposition. Certainly many of the numbers are combat casualties. However all three sent unarmed citizens to their deaths. If they had the technology of today the numbers likely would have been higher.

I can’t help thinking that people who buy off on the concept of autonomous killing drones understand and agree with this quote from Mariah Carey.

But for the flies, skinny is okay

I can’t help feeling that the antiwar crowd is not as much as antiwar as against the uniforms They aren’t fashionable. The neighborhoods where fighting takes place are low rent. The help is surly. There is no room service. I guess Robert E Lee summed it up for these folks.
