Senior Living

My dad has made the move to an Independent Senior living situation. He moved into a one bedroom apartment. The facility offers a variety of activities. It also provides breakfast and lunch.

It is not a nursing home. A couple of articles I ran across lead me to believe that it is more akin to a college dorm.

Consider this article. It shows an increase in recreational drug use among the elderly. What the….?

The proportion of adults 65 years and older who reported using marijuana use increased from 2.4% in 2015 to 4.2% in 2018, according to a study published Monday in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine.

Meet the elderly. These are just some of the ones that made it to old age.

We forget or fail to put into context guys like these. They are all eligible for senior living accommodations. The link below also demonstrates another disconnect in thinking, who would have thought to put geriatric and recreational sex in the same sentence.

Particularly among older adults, the climb in STD rates appears steeper. A recent analysis of patients on athenahealth’s network found that patients over age 60 account for the biggest increase of in-office treatments for sexually transmitted infections.

The facility tries to provide a variety of activities to entertain and stimulate the residents. However, residents are free to pursue their own interests. According to the CDC, the elderly represent a substantial uptick in reported STD rates.

I guess the key is to remain age appropriate.

Oh well, “Let the games begin!”
