The US Navy has confirmed that it intends to name a ship after Harvey Milk, a gay San Francisco Supervisor who was murdered while in office. Milk had no connection to the Navy. The Navy refuses to confirm that the vessel, to be named, is a trailing suction hopper dredge (pictured).

The vessel is used to maintain harbors and canals and like its intended namesake is capable of sucking up huge loads.
