May 1st is traditionally celebrated by socialists, liberals, trade union types but in reality, May 1st was long ago hijacked by the communists despite the wink, wink, nudge, nudge denials of the useful idiots and fellow travelers. In the interests of accuracy, I think communist achievements ought to be included. Volokh started it.

The authoritative Black Book of Communism estimates the total at 80 to 100 million dead, greater than that caused by all other twentieth century tyrannies combined. Fellow travelers and useful idiots cannot recall the Communist death toll but have no trouble recalling the numbers attributed to Hitler and his pals, 6 million Jews in his genocide scheme and another 10 million in the world war.

Compared to Stalin and Mao, Hitler was relatively benign. On a bad day, Mao rings the bell at 100 million dead, of his own people. Stalin hits close to sixty million dead, depending on who is doing the counting. Stalin was fond of pointing out one man’s death is a tragedy a million is a statistic. We all know what a liberal can do with statistics. Pol Pot racks up 1.2 million victims which makes him seem like an underachiever, but he only had a base population of 7 million to work with.

So this May Day give credit where credit is due. Put it in terms that Margaret Sanger can understand and appreciate. “For outstanding efforts in population control, we applaud the efforts of Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot.”
