I have never understood why executing a wacko is wrong. Proponents of the prohibition point out that the wacko may not understand why he is being executed. So what? Most perfectly sane inmates who face execution take issue with the whole process. That hasn’t stopped the state from executing them.
Here’s an idea, Tell the wacko that he is going on a trip to Disneyland. But first he has to take a nap. When he wakes up he can go on all the rides. Problem solved. No more fear, just happy anticipation.
