Here is the setup. A black dude wrestles an ATM machine to a metro bus and attempts to board. The driver hesitates but ultimately drives off leaving the guy and his ATM machine behind. The video was posted with no other context, what you see on the video is what you get.

The assumption is that this guy has stolen the ATM in broad daylight and is attempting to make his getaway via mass transit. Google it, the story has been reported that way around the world. But like the Gershwin song from “Porgy and Bess” says, “It Ain’t Necessarily So.”

Just because an item appears on the Internet doesn’t make it so. It is getting tougher and tougher to separate bullshit from news. It turns out the whole video was a spoof. The ATM was not stolen. The black guy wasn’t a thief. But you would never know that unless you dug down deep to find out the rest of the story.
