Thirty years ago, I got sued by a suspect for failure to cater. The plaintiff alleged that I intentionally booked him into the Bexar County jail too late for him to get breakfast. A now former jailer is being charged for catering a meal to an inmate.
According to the story, the jailer provided an inmate with a cheeseburger. He was charged with introducing contraband into a penal institution (a cheeseburger). When I think contraband and jail, I think drugs or cell phones.
I can hear the conversation now. “What are you in for?”
“I smuggled a cheeseburger into the jail.”
“Hope you saved the ketchup package because you’re gonna need some lube.”
I will admit that at least once I went through the drive thru at Mickey D’s on the way to book a crook into the same jail. But he had to finish the burger in the parking lot.
