I’m not exactly sure when it happened. There is a point of diminishing returns. It is okay to arrest a dumb-shit. It is not okay to bury him in cheesy charges. I never indulged in these silly games. As a supervisor, I wouldn’t let my guys play either. Now-a-days cops play this game, all the time. I am not sure they are doing anybody any favors.

Take this jerk off, for example. Goof ball made himself the target of a Federal Prosecution. He will likely end up in prison for the better part of a decade. The arresting agent will get brownie points.

In a different era, old Chauncy would have ended up in county jail. There would have been no Federal prosecution and no publicity. Back then cops had the good sense to be embarrassed when involved in a debacle, such as this. No longer. Either that or Chauncy is living proof that a FED cannot be embarrassed.

Florida Man charged with threatening to kill Trump to avenge Soleimani.

The details:

Agent Lucas White wrote that shortly after Trump announced last week that a US airstrike had killed Qassem Soleimani in Iraq in retaliation for plotting numerous terrorist attacks, [Chauncy] Lump, under the name “BlackMan vs. America,” began livestreaming a seven-minute video on Facebook.

During that video, agents say, Lump made several threats against the president — who was staying at his Mar-a-Lago club, less than an hour away — while periodically displaying a loaded AK-47 semi-automatic rifle.

Lump had white cream on his face, a towel wrapped like a turban on his head, an apparent shower curtain over his body. [Emphasis added, because seriously, WTF?]

Old school cops accepted that idiots who got themselves arrested had to engage in face saving gestures. The drunk arrested for pissing on a dumpster, got arrested for being drunk. The wee-wee part just improved on the facts of the arrest. Noted in the report, it ensured a quick guilty plea.

If the drunk wanted to humbug and mother-fuck the arresting officer it was added to the report. Same with threats to kick the officer’s ass. It is kinda of hard to administer an ass-kicking, when the defendant can’t stand on two feet.

As a kindly old judge noted, anybody who would talk to a cop, in that manner, had to be either drunk or crazy. If drunk, it was jail overnight. If crazy, it was three days in the state hospital for observation. Put that way drunk won out.

These days diarrhea of the mouth could result in charges of Terroristic Threat, Resisting Arrest, and Retaliation.

I guess I’m operating under the old fashioned rules of the wild west. When a cowboy jumped on a horse, not his own, to make a fast get-a-way the posse was sure to follow. When the posse caught him and strung him up it was for stealing the horse, not the saddle, and contents of the saddle bag. It seemed to work back then.

I am not defending the dumb SOB. Knowing how the FEDS operate they will have devoted hundreds of hours and substantial funds and technical resources to the investigation. These are resources that could have been better used elsewhere. In the end what will the investigation have established? Lump is one of the stupidest assholes to surface in a state inundated with stupid assholes.
