Florida man who wrote ex-girlfriend’s name on bullet accused of attempted murder

No surprise, the headline doesn’t in any way depict actual events that led to the charge. If boyfriend could go to jail for writing on a bullet, that would be the beginning of a slippery slope. Using the logic advanced in the headline, I see a slew of charges for this pastry chef. “Look Out, he has a pastry bag!” or “When pastry bags are outlawed, Only outlaws will have pastry bags!”

You have to read down to the fifth paragraph to find that writing threats on a bullet was the least egregious of his actions.

According to the arrest report, on July 3, Marin “pressed a handgun against her lips and threatened to kill her if she left him.

The woman left to stay with a friend, but Marin showed up the next day looking for her, police said.

According to the arrest report, Marin allegedly showed the woman’s friend a bullet with his ex-girlfriend’s name written on it in green ink. “This is what I’m going to do to her,” Marin allegedly said, before pointing the gun at the friend’s head, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

Seems to me writing messages on a bullet is a First Amendment issue. Shoving a pistol in her mouth, no so much.

What would Tony do?
