Girls With Guns

The photo shows Los Angeles Female Police Officers of the 1950’s.  Can’t see the guns?  That because they carried them in their purses. There was no intention, on the part of the brass, of sending them out on patrol.  Their duties were largely administrative with some assignments like juvenile and sex crimes.  The shoes they are wearing were considered to self defense weapons.  The heel would bring 1000’s of pounds of pressure to bear on a suspects instep. I am not sure if skirts are even part of the female police uniform these days.
