Fight or Flight?

One event, two takes on it. The statements are diametrically opposed. On the one hand, the speaker acknowledges that evil exists in the world and must be fought. The other speaker finds evil only in inanimate objects. Nothing works against evil men, just accept it.

A gunman produces a gun during a church service and starts shooting. Six seconds later the shooting is over. A church goer shot and killed the gunman. Here is what he had to say:

Jack Wilson

“I just want to thank all who have sent their prayers and comments on the events of today,” Wilson wrote on Facebook in a post that received thousands of likes and shares. “The events at West Freeway Church of Christ put me in a position that I would hope no one would have to be in, but evil exists and I had to take out an active shooter in church.”

“I’m thankful to GOD that I have been blessed with the ability and desire to serve him in the role of head of security at the church,” the post continued. “I am very sad in the loss of two dear friends and brothers in CHRIST, but evil does exist in this world and I and other members are not going to allow evil to succeed. Please pray for all the members and their families in this time. Thank you for your prayers and understanding.”

Never one to manipulate a crisis to his own ends Beto O’Rourke added his take.

“So saddened to hear about another church shooting in Texas, this one in White Settlement near Fort Worth,” the former Democratic presidential candidate tweeted. “Clearly what we are doing in Texas, what we are doing in this country, when it comes to guns is not working.”

Good guys with guns don’t exist in Beto’s universe.

How can one honestly comment on the White Settlement shooting without acknowledging the efforts of the congregation in addressing the threat? A photo run on Power Line Blog purports to show no less than six armed parishioners.

What is amazing is that these “good guys with guns” that Beto refuses to acknowledge, had the discipline to hold their fire. From past experience, I’m pretty sure that, had they been six cops, it would have gotten very loud in that church.
