Deadbeats Beware

Marshals raid team

Arrested for Failing to Pay Off Student Loan

It’s been in the news for the past few days, a former Prairie View A&M student failed to pay off his student loans of twenty years ago, was arrested by the United States Marshal’s Service (USMS), probably a task force group.  The photo above shows a typical team, there are deputy US Marshals, Police, and Sheriff’s Deputies.  They are equipped with ballistic vests, and pistols, no long guns are in evidence.

As is typical, the reader by implication, is told to ignore the fact that the deadbeat had a warrant out for his arrest. A warrant is an order from a court, in this case a Federal Court, to find the person named and bring him before the court.  This is not an invitation to be accepted or declined on a whim. It is not a subpoena, let’s discuss this and see if it is convenient. This is an order from the court to the USMS, find this guy, bring him to me, kicking and screaming if need be.

Most people, when they see a USMS raid team camped out on their doorstep take the path of least resistance and willingly accompany the Marshals. Some times they do not.

The USMS has an obligation to its officers and the public to be able to handle either eventuality.  That means with enough deputies to seal off means of escape and overcome any resistance.  Ron White may have said it best, “I didn’t know how many bouncers it was going to take to whip my ass… but I knew how many they intended to use.”

A guy playing golf on a sunny day suddenly struck down by a random lightening bolt, you have my sympathy.  A dead beat who has been ducking a debt for 20 years suddenly finding it has come due in the form of a Marshal’s Task Force, SUCKS TO BE YOU.
