The “Washington Free Beacon” published a montage that amounts to an Obituary for the Republican Party.  It is quotes of famous Republicans with Jim Morrison of “The Doors” singing “This is the End” in the background. Always did like that song.

Before you get too down in the dumps remember that history is replete with “the end”.  Some, like the rivalry between Rome and Carthage were big ends and some like the death of Queen Victoria were little ends. Rome triumphed over Carthage, killed all the men, enslaved the women and children, tore down the buildings and poured salt in the fields.  Come to think of it has anybody had problems with recalcitrant Carthaginians since? Queen Victoria’s death led to the end of the Victorian Era and an opening up of English society.  In either case, those participating in “the end” could not predict the ultimate outcome, good or bad.

Trump as the Republican nominee represents one “end” which in and of itself must be viewed as positive.  Trump is the first candidate since Dwight David Eisenhower*, that is not a full time politician. For over sixty years the electorate has been asked to vote for a candidate based solely on one talent they possessed, the ability to get elected.  If being a one trick pony is the sole criteria for elevation to the highest office in the land, then the nation perpetrated an injustice on Linda Lovelace by not electing her.

*I can already hear the screams of indignation, I am in no way comparing Trump with Eisenhower, they are together in the same sentence simply because they represent each ends of a timeline.
