Is This Something?

I have been busy moving stuff to a new computer when I came across a bit of San Antonio history. San Antonio shares the distinction with New Orleans of having a published directory of Prostitution Services available to the discerning tourist.

Interior Blue Book

The book was published only one year in 1911 and is attributed to Billy Keilman, a former San Antonio Police Officer.  The City established a “red light” district in San Antonio in order to regulate the trade and ensure that it remained profitable.

The Red Light district became less prominent in the early 1940’s. In fact as Commander at Fort Sam Houston, Dwight D Eisenhower basically told the city that they could have the army or the whores, but not both.  All and all being known as a military city is better than the alternative.

I wondered if any other cities besides San Antonio and New Orleans published a “Blue Book” and I found one other.  This Blue Book is of recent vintage.  I include a photo of the cover, here:

What the denizens of the book offer is coded, but in one instance I think that I have cracked the code! Democrat means “will do anything to anyone for a quarter.” Republican seems to be code for some weird masochistic stuff I haven’t figured out.
