Is This A Good Idea?

The newest fad in wacko-land is recounted here: drag-queen-story-hour-2/

I am concerned about the message that is being sent to toddlers and pre-schoolers. Consider the following: Mommy brings the kid to the library on a weekly basis so that one of these examples of … can read stories to them. Think of the confusion in store for this kid.

If the toddler belongs to a typical family, once a year there is a big family get together, that will be the only time that the little tyke will see members of the extended family. Remember your own experience, at that age.

Your mother passed you around to all the relatives.

With limited experience, the toddler has to put the situation and people into a context that is easily understood. Is this really Aunt Sadie or is she like the lady at the library, which would make her Uncle Sadie?

Some kids exposed, at a young age, later develop a fear of clowns. Is the stage being set for a whole new generation of people to be afraid of garishly dressed matrons?
