Rose Dunn, rode with the Wild Bunch
Rose Dunn, rode with the Wild Bunch

Rose Dunn and her brothers, along with George “Bittercreek” Newcomb tried their hand at the outlaw life. By 1893, Newcomb and Rose joined the Wild Bunch, while her brothers decided to leave the life. The brothers became bounty hunters. Rose was involved in several shootouts but by 1895 it was all over. The US Marshals and her brothers managed to kill off most the gang. You may know Rose better as “Rose of the Cimarron”.

Rose married a politician so it may be premature to say she gave up her life of crime. I can’t tell what type of pistol she is holding or whether it was from her outlaw period or political period.

She lived until the 1950’s. Could it be that the popularity of the westerns was due to the availability of primary sources, like Rose.
