FSM and Islam Both a Bad Joke

Pastafarians  are in the news once again. Pastafarians, members of the Church of Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) have been in and out of courtrooms for years fighting for the right to wear spaghetti strainers on their heads while having their driver’s license picture taken.  They claim it is a religious requirement and they have had some luck. A Texas Tech student won a court case to allow him to be pictured in his driver’s license photo with a Pasta strainer on his head.  John M. Gerrard, a U.S. district judge in Nebraska, ruled this week that FSM was not a real religion.

The plaintiff in this case, one Cavanaugh is in Nebraska State Prison.  He filed a Federal Civil rights action alleging that the state refused to give him a religious accommodation. Pastafarians regard pirate dress as religious clothing and he wanted to wear a pirate costume. Secondly, Pastafarians regard spaghetti and meatballs as a sacrament and the consumption of such, communion.  Both requests were denied.

Judge Gerrard wasn’t entirely unsympathetic. He accepted that members may be sincere in their membership.  He stated that he understood their underlying message and felt based on his understanding the FSM was more in line with social commentary and political beliefs, and therefore didn’t qualify as a religion.

That got me to thinking:

Both religions endorse the wearing of silly hats.

Both religions adopt silly costumes as a symbol of faith.

Both religions promise an active afterlife. According to FSM there is a college for topless dancers in heaven.  Islam promises 72 virgins to those that martyr themselves in the cause of Islam.

In going through the literature of FSM I did not find anything addressing murder, beheading, lying cheating, stealing, or world domination.  A cursory search of literature regarding muslim thoughts on those same subjects, revealed that they are not sins but virtues.

Hey Judge Gerrard, I’m not saying you got it wrong.  You gave Cavanaugh a fair hearing, can you imagine the field day the guys on the Ninth Circuit would have with Cavanaugh?

The ground work has been laid in Nebraska. We just need one attorney with a hair on his ass, nay we’ll take peach fuzz, to lob a slow easy one over the plate. By a Federal Judges’s decision Islam will be laid bare as the two bit con job and fascist political system that it truly is. Islam will join FSM as a weird joke imposed on the rest of the world.
