Tax Breaks for All

It’s the same old story. A homeowner is attacked in their own home and uses a firearm to protect their family and themselves. Local law enforcement comes and cleans up the mess. Arm chair quarterbacks pontificate on the result. Life goes on.

In Texas, it costs $21,390 to house an inmate for a year. It stands to reason that a homeowner killing a crook represents a substantial savings to the county and state.

I think that the State of Texas ought to recognize the efforts of home owners in vermin control. Some counties in the state offer cash awards for landowners that kill feral hogs and coyotes. I think it is only fair to extend the program.

Some people may be upset at the prospect of a program that offers, “cash for dead crooks.” If just anybody could collect a bounty, misplaced enthusiasm could cause problems. Poaching and hunting over a baited field come to mind.

In an effort to forestall such activity, I have a proposal. Tax incentives! Legitimate shooters of crooks would receive a tax moratorium in a set amount. For the homeowner it could applied to property taxes. A renter could get a break on vehicle registration, exercise tax and small business tax or permit fees.

It’s lonely being an innovator!
