Something Happened in Austin

According to the Austin UNAmerican Statesman something happened on Sixth Street this weekend. Details are sketchy. According to the Statesman, a number of people were shot and one died. The culprit was at least one firearm, maybe two. These inanimate objects suddenly began shooting. Read the Statesman, there was apparently no human input involved.

Other MSM reports aren’t much better. Reports from those sources indicate that a black male juvenile is in custody. He is one of two shooters. The second shooter remains at large and undescribed. Police believe that the shooting was the result of a disagreement between the two shooters. I gonna go out on a limb and suppose that the second shooter is also black. Unstated by the MSM is the fact that the most deadly thing confronting a black male is another black male.

It is all the fault of the gun. Since the headlines make no mention of an “assault rifle” it is probably safe to say that the weapons involved were handguns. There ought to be a law! Oh wait, there is one.

Juveniles cannot purchase or possess handguns. They can’t buy ammunition. I’m gonna take another flyer and suppose that this isn’t the first rodeo for either shooter. To blaze away on a crowed street indicates a callous disregard for life. I’m guessing that both shooters are frequent fliers in the criminal justice system. There’s another law! Convicted felons cannot possess a firearm. Individuals currently under indictment cannot acquire firearms, legally.

Let’s not forget the elephant in the room. Attempting to murder somebody is considered unacceptable in most (but apparently not all) segments of society. I can hear the shooters’ defense now. Shooting thirteen people, none of which were the target of one’s ire was not an intentional act. It was an accident. Since it was accident, the shooter bears no responsibility. Must been something wrong with the gun. The sights didn’t work.

Laws don’t work if those that run the system don’t have the will to enforce them. I suspect that neither one of these shooters should have been loose on the street. I could be wrong. But it’s Austin. Austin is a shithole of its own making. The chances of getting the real story behind the shooting are pretty slim. Between the Statesman and the politicians there is nobody that is credible and reliable in a position to report.
