That’s Terrible! Before one gets their panties in a wad, one has to ask: “is there more to the story?” Yeah well maybe. Let’s look beyond the headline.

“I grew up in Philadelphia. I grew up under Mayor [Frank] Rizzo. [He] went from chief of police to becoming the mayor, and he had an iron hand,”

Will Smith

Will Smith says Philadelphia cops referred to him as a nigger. Okay, he has a bitch coming. Why is this news? The Philadelphia cops were not referring to a Hollywood Megastar. Smith admits this happened when he was in high school. No, the name calling took place during the administration of Frank Rizzo. He was Police Chief and later mayor. Rizzo died in 1991, twenty-nine years ago. On the brighter side, given the time period he is referencing, he is still ahead of the game. At least the Philadelphia PD helicopter didn’t carry out an air strike on his house.

I do have one question for Mr. Smith. Since you’re keeping score, how many times did your bro’s and ho’s call you a nigger? Do you have to go back further than last week to find an example?

If the term “nigger” is offensive, then it is offensive always. It doesn’t matter who wields the term. If it is acceptable to use nigger, providing one is black, while delivering rap lyrics, and or making a casual greeting, then it is acceptable across the board.
