I might have to go with the protesters on this one. ICE rounded up a bunch of wetbacks hanging around outside a Home Depot. They show up early in the morning waiting for contractors to drive up and recruit them as day laborers. On this occasion ICE showed up first and arrested a bunch.
I admit that I’m of two minds. My first thought is that had contractors arrived and hired that crew they would be destined to be disappointed. I mean how much work is a contractor going to get from a wetback that is too dumb or too slow to evade ICE?
On the other hand, I’m kind of down on ICE. It just doesn’t seem sporting to stake out a Home Depot. That’s California for you. Wouldn’t happen in Texas. In Texas, it is against the law to hunt over a baited field. There isn’t much difference between throwing out feed to target Quail and staking out a Home Depot to target wetbacks.
Liberals will claim the high road and say it is about human rights. Sounds good. I suspect the reality is more prosaic. They are worried that they will have to mow their own lawn.
