Nomination For A Hero Badge

Arlington, Texas patrol car

I wrote about this when the story first broke. Here is the follow-up from March 2017. The only problem I have with the result is the sheer volume of misconduct tells me that management controls were not sufficient. We all know that shit rolls downhill and patrol officers are living in the valley.

All sixteen officers that were accused have resigned. Five of the officers had previously been indicted by Tarrant County for their role. Eleven officers resigned at the same time to avoid a similar fate. They surrendered their peace officer license and promised to forget how to spell police never be police officers again. Charges were dismissed against the five under indictment with the same understanding.

I don’t have a lot of faith that the state police licensing agency will be able to figure out what they are supposed to do with those surrendered licenses. I sent an officer to federal prison for 12 1/2 years. He was there for two years before TCLEOSE (the name of the licensing agency at the time) got around to asking him if he would mind voluntarily surrendering his license. Maybe the name change is indicative of a new level of competence. I think they changed their name to dodge bill collectors.
