USA Today is reporting that Hugo Castro attempted to turn himself in at the Santa Clara County Jail, for murdering his girlfriend. A deputy turned him away telling Castro he would first have to make a report at San Jose PD two blocks away.  The deputy gave him directions and sent him on his way.

It is not unusual for homicide suspects to Surrender.  As a rookie, my future ex-wife arrested three murder suspects and never left the police station to do it. Her brother, at the time, an eight year highway patrol trooper had yet to see a murder suspect, except on perp walks on TV. 

The deputy has been reassigned, South Carolina is looking for a School Resource Officer.
