Nomination For a Hero Badge

It was my experience that east coast police officers were decidedly blue collar in their view of the police role in society. NYPD patrol officers don’t answer calls for service. They go on “jobs.” East coast police departments tend to be heavily unionized.

Unions have made inroads into police departments, in Texas. Many officers do not join. They prefer to fight organized crime, rather than pay dues to criminals.

I debated whether or not it was appropriate to use Officer Prieto’s photo, in this context. Ultimately I decided it was. Officer Prieto has already had his bout with the Chinese virus. He is back at work. I am not lumping him in with the almost 20% of NYPD uniformed officers who didn’t show up for work. No, his inclusion is to shame them.

I take the stand that officers sign up to take calculated risks. Officers that have no problem collecting their pay when the risk is low are faithless when the risk increases.
