Be careful what you wish for… This story illustrates the 900-pound gorilla in the room that nobody will admit is there. Deportation of wetbacks may not be all it is cracked up to be. Sending illegals back to South America, Asia, the Middle East or Europe may work for a while. That is more a function of distance than justice.

The story describes how a wetback raped a corpse on a New York subway train. It turns out he had been deported five times only to return like the swallows of Capistrano on a slightly different migration. This guy was such a joy that his own family turned him in.
I had a buddy who employed wetbacks. Occasionally they got picked up by Border Patrol. They opted for self-deportation. They knew that going with the flow would get them a free ride back to Mexico and a stern warning not to come back. Usually, they were back to work for my buddy, in Texas, in three to five days. Those that took longer to get back stopped off to visit their family.
The Feds could have done paperwork that would make a subsequent return a felony, punishable by prison time. The secret is that kicking Julio across the line on the international bridge is a win without the paperwork.
Without a judicial determination I’m guessing they never achieved the status that allowed for a criminal prosecution.
“Felix Jeronimo-Rojas is an illegal alien from Mexico who unlawfully entered the United States on several occasions,” an ICE spokesperson stated Friday to the Daily Caller News Foundation. “U.S. Border Patrol encountered Jeronimo three times in 1998 and once in 1999,”
ICE Spokesman
“He was voluntarily returned to Mexico on each occasion,” the spokesperson continued. “Jeronimo illegally reentered the U.S. without admission on a later unknown date and remained unencountered until [the New York Police Department] arrested him April 27, for allegedly raping a corpse on the subway April 8.”
There was a time when leaving one’s homeland meant never seeing family and friends left behind ever again. Those days are gone. Thomas Wolfe was wrong when he said, “You can’t go home again.” These days not only can you go home but ICE will pay for the trip.
Not a bad deal, commit rape, robbery, murder and get a free ride back to the old neighborhood to visit with the vatos.
I don’t have a problem with convicting these guys in the appropriate criminal court and then sending them to prison. They earned that. At the end of their sentence then ICE can have their sorry asses. But what do I know? I’m just a broke down retired cop.
