Cops In Church

During the last fifteen years of my police career I was assigned to a narcotics task force. Needless to say I worked plain clothes, During my tenure, my parent agency changed uniforms. I was never issued the new uniform. Out of sight out of mind.

I don’t have a problem with cops attending church services in uniform. However they would do well to recall the fate of SAPD Officer Douglas Goeble who was killed in the line of duty. Ironically, in a Church, Church’s Fried Chicken. Always be aware of your surroundings.

I used to point out that I could give directions to any titty bar in the city. I was a little shaky on locating churches.

The Chief started by encouraging on duty officers to attend church services in all or part, as their duties would allow. He expanded that authorization for off duty officers to wear their uniforms for the purposes of attending church.

In the wake of the local attack on the West Freeway Church of Christ last Sunday, as well as the attacks on Jewish communities and church services nationally, Chief Kraus is authorizing and encouraging our officers who attend worship services to do so in full police uniform.

I don’t know how or why, but I am sure that some liberal asshole will find fault with the Chief’s decision.

This ought to screw with the gun control lobby’s heads. Society has cops, people don’t need to be armed. Churches should be gun free zones. Armed cops shouldn’t be in churches because…. Freedom of religion, yeah that’s it.
Ooh, ooh, ooh, I’ve got it, the Chief is violating the separation of church and state. By allowing cops to wear uniforms to church services, he is engaged in state support of religion.
