Nomination For A Hero Badge

Another thug’s mother wins the Ghetto lottery in Minnesota. Entitlement rears its ugly head, another black man dies and another city burns. Police bad. Rioters good. There is an old saying, “It takes two to tango.” Lost in the MSM bullshit is that the so-called victim thug knew how to get arrested with a minimum of fuss. However, he ignored everything he knew, with tragic results.

I don’t buy police claims that the female officer had an accidental discharge and confused her Glock for a taser. Let me put the shooting into context. Golfers will understand. A golfer is 125 yards out from the pin (that’s the flag thingy). The golfer has a choice of 14 clubs. The golfer reaches into the bag intending to use a nine iron. Instead, the golfer grabs a six iron, takes a practice swing, assumes the stance and executes a perfect swing. What follows is a beautiful result, for a six iron. The ball sails fifty yards past the green. This was not the golfer’s intended result. However, it wasn’t accidental, the equipment, approach, swing all worked as intended. The golfer and officer erred in the initial selection, of the appropriate tool, everything else worked as intended.

Did the officer intend to shoot the thug? Yes. With a Glock? Probably not, but she got there anyway. Another thing to consider is that officers typically carry their firearm on their strong side (dominant hand). The Taser is usually holstered on the weak side (cross draw) or while wearing a tactical vest, on the chest. The theory is that two entirely different sequences of moves will prevent mistakes. Yeah, how did that work out? The Glock is flat black. Most tasers have splashes of yellow. This serves as a visual cue. A Glock comes in at 32 ounces, while the taser weighs 8 ounces. How does a well trained officer confuse the two? The answer is that a well trained officer, doesn’t. Panic is not part of the plan.

Most police officers have to qualify, that is shoot their weapons once a year. Failure to qualify is not an option. I never carried a taser, so I can’t speak to the level of training. While I was assigned to the task force, we had quarterly firearms training and qualified twice a year. On top of that we had a training session more suited to our patterns of confrontation. I also had to qualify, once a year, back at my parent agency. All told, I probably fired a thousand rounds during training and qualification. Much of shooting was of the draw and fire variety. The theory is that repetition builds muscle memory.

I haven’t got a clue as to taser training and qualification and requalification requirements. I do know that a Taser training cartridge costs $24.95. I figure that ammunition costs for a 1000 rounds ran about $350 per shooter. For the same money a taser shooter would get to shoot 14 Taser cartridges. That is a whole lot of muscle memory, within the context of the village idiot.

Was racism in play? I don’t think so. Stupidity was at the forefront, but not racism. The police were confronting a felon with an active warrant involving firearms charges. The felon told his mama that the police had stopped him for having an air freshener hanging from the rear view mirror. He apparently knew this was a violation, but didn’t care. His actions indicated a sense of entitlement. In some communities committing a felony renders one immune to arrest on other charges. See George Floyd.

While the Burn, Loot and Murder (BLM) crowd shouts their platitudes let me add one more to the cacophony. “Every cloud has a silver lining.” The thug is no longer among the upright. However, he has fulfilled every mother’s dream. His death will take care of her in her old age. The payoff from the City will more than offset cost. There are the intangible benefits to consider also, no demands for bail money, lawyers fees and child support. From this point forward, Mama will always know where her son is.

I have no sympathy for any of the participants in this circus. The police officer screwed up. The police department carried an officer of questionable competence, for over twenty years. The department issued equipment in lieu of training and wonders why it went wrong. The thug embraced a criminal lifestyle and mama calls him a good boy. Reap what you sow.
