Three Presidents, Three Walls
Thirty-one years ago then President Regan called on Mikhail Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall. Shortly afterwards that wall came tumbling down. Twenty-five years later President Trump called for a wall to be built along the southern border. Basement Joe hasn’t been inaugurated yet. But at the urging of sycophants a wall is being erected around the Capitol to protect politicians from the people that elected them.
Compare and Contrast
Words from an old dead white guy. What could he possibly have to say that would be applicable to today?
“Without freedom of thought there can be no such thing as wisdom; and no such thing as public liberty, without freedom of speech.”
“Freedom of speech is a principal pillar of a free government; when this support is taken away, the constitution of a free society is dissolved, and tyranny is erected on its ruins. Republics…derive their strength and vigor from a popular examination into the action of the magistrates.”
The only thing Ben Franklin got wrong was his fear of magistrates overstepping their bounds. He couldn’t conceive of the abusive power of Twitter, Facebook and Goggle.
