Not So Smug

The headline announces that”El Chapo” billionaire narco trafficker in Mexico has been captured once again, once again after a shootout with Mexican Marines. It might be me, but I get this unspoken undercurrent in the reports.  Big deal, so you caught him, how long are you going to hold onto him? The Mexican justice system is notorious for the favoritism shown to high profile wealthy suspects. The reports point out that the United States have active warrants for El Chapo. The implication is, turn him over to the US if you want real justice.  I wonder, do we have any room to brag?

Two pervertsLet’s look at some notable prosecutions that have taken place or are pending in the United States.  Jeffrey Epstein (pictured left) is a West Palm Beach billionaire investor and friend of Bill “BJ” Clinton, noted serial rapist and sometime President. Epstein was caught with a stable of underage prostitutes that he liked to share with his friends.  West Palm Beach worked hard to make the case. The best they could do was 18 months house arrest reduced to 14 months. Rumors persist that Epstein liked orgies and that the venue for these orgies was covered by a sophisticated camera system.

Then we have one of my favorites Marc Rich. Marc Rich and his companies were indicted in 1983 on more than 60 counts of securities fraud.  He remained a fugitive until January 20, 2001, when he was pardoned by noted serial rapist and soon to be ex President Bill “BJ” Clinton. I guess Rich was remorseful about being a fugitive.

Felon

In the interest of brevity, I figured I would only cover the “high crimes and misdemeanors” committed while she was in office. As Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was the responsible for the safety and security of state department personnel.  The first step along that road was to ensure that the security posture of State Department properties complied with the standards set out in the FAR and FAM.  History has shown that Benghazi was not compliant and that she was aware of the shortcomings.  As Secretary of State she violated the law and standard procedures by setting up her own private e-mail network and then transmitting classified information on that network.  Once out of government she has done everything possible to obstruct the investigation.  As Secretary of State she actively solicited donations to a charity set up for her own benefit. Investigation continues with no end in sight.

I think it would be best if Mexico keeps “El Chapo”. With the gang that is in charge here now, I’m afraid if we took him, “El Chapo” would wind up as the next head of DEA.
