Officer having ‘anxiety attack’ took ambulance sent for man dying from police shooting, report says

It’s brilliant! This could start a new trend! The New York City Police Department (NYPD) started a variation on the theme. NYPD officers involved in a shooting are taken to the hospital for medical evaluation. The rationale is that the officers maybe suffering from hearing damage because they weren’t wearing OSHA approved hearing protection while working in a loud environment. Bridgeport PD, just up the road, did NYPD one better.

A female officer assisted in the chase of a fleeing suspect. The suspect pulled a gun during the chase. He was shot for his efforts. Not by the female officer. He survived the initial shooting and cops called an ambulance. When the ambulance arrived, the female officer jumped in claiming that she was suffering an anxiety attack. Paramedics transported but did not treat her enroute to the hospital.

The suspect had to wait for a second ambulance. He didn’t survive the roughly half hour delay. The shooting was ruled justified by the State Inspector General. The family is upset about the delay in transporting the dearly departed for medical treatment.

The female officer is still not back at work, supposedly for unrelated reasons. I’m gonna take a slightly wild assed guess (SWAG) and pick PTSD as the reason. Not a scratch on her, but a million dollar wound just the same.
