With Apologies to Cockroaches Everywhere

A New Mexico man charged with a double murder made the claim that a cockroach ordered him to kill. To the uninitiated this would seem to be so bizarre as to be unbelievable. Not so fast. From my experience he may be on to something.

During thirty years of law enforcement, I worked for a couple of police chiefs that could only aspire to reach the level of integrity and morality possessed by a cockroach.

One was a chief of police in San Marcos, Texas. I once compared him to Henry Lee Lucas. I pointed out to a fellow chief that Henry Lee Lucas, the serial murderer was a finer more upstanding moral person than the San Marcos chief. After hesitating, the chief agreed with me.

The second chief I worked for also suffered when compared to a cockroach. He sent me to the local narcotics task force. The only good thing he ever did. He pointed out that the assignment would end my law enforcement career. In all likelihood I would turn into an alcoholic or drug abuser and die behind the wheel with a titty dancer seated beside me. I replied thank you for the opportunity. About a year later he vacated his office in the middle of the night, put a resignation letter in the mayor’s mailbox and stole off into the night.

It seems the chief had exhausted the department’s supply of Polaroid film. He might have survived that, but for the fact that he lost track of some of the photos. The photos that made the rounds showed a female dispatcher nude and seated in his office. She was a lousy dispatcher but demonstrated in the naked photos her ability to place her feet behind her head. Did I mention that her part time job was titty dancer and occasional hooker? The telephone lines into dispatch were subject to recording.

So yes, I can say that I have taken orders from cockroaches or at least to those that tried to reach those heights.

Most people have a bias against cockroaches and that is unfortunate. Here is a little exercise of compare and contrast. Take what you know about the following people and compare them to cockroaches: Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Adam Schiff, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

See cockroaches aren’t so bad.
