Santa Cruz County’s First-in-the-World Cigarette Filter Ban Passed – ASH > Action on Smoking & Health

Santa Cruz enacts cigarette filter ban. “It’s for the publics’ own good. Define good? The problem with liberals is that they never know when to stop. Years ago, San Antonio decided to toughen up the rules governing titty dancers. Seems there was a rash of fights and shootings around titty bars. No titty dancers were injured or implicated in the various affrays. Why would facts deter a liberal? Rather than jailing the shooters, liberals targeted what they perceived to be the real problem. Bare boobs and skimpy G-strings. They banned G-strings and required that offending nipples be covered. Unintended consequences.

This move unleashed a variety of environmental and public health issues. Consider, if you will:

Many pasties are made of silicone and are not biodegradable. A discarded silicone pasty poses the same hazard as a discarded cigarette butt.
Some pasties come with accouterments that pose a hazard to potential patrons. Swinging chains could rip out mustache hair and tangle with eye wear.
Rigid bead work can pose a choking hazard to unwary customers.
Metal pasties provide a dual hazard. Patrons that stray to close could put an eye out. Alternately the metal appliance could cause a patron to chip a tooth entailing expensive dental work.
